6 New Ways to Style Your Blazers for Fall with Pieces You Already Own

If you told me my house was on fire, I’d run out with my favorite blazer in tow. Realistically, yes, I’m kidding—but my love for blazers is that extreme. While I typically wear them on rotation throughout the year, come fall, I focus solely on my limitless blazer collection. They’re the savior when you don’t know what to wear, the piece that instantly pulls you together, the crème de la crème of fall fashion.

Whether you’re ahead of the trend curve or not, it’s the must-have anti-trend piece that works for all style types. What was once synonymous with workwear is now the foundation of every woman’s casual wardrobe. But no matter the dress code or season, rest assured that nobody works harder than this versatile, year-round staple.

From oversized to double-breasted, there’s a blazer (and outfit combo) for everyone. As we look forward to cooler temps, I’m sharing my favorite ways to wear this basic fall layer—all you have to do is click copy and paste.

1. With a Belt

If you want to try out the trendy hourglass blazer for fall but don’t necessarily want to invest in a new blazer, try using your favorite belt to create the waist-cinching effect. This idea may seem stuffy in theory, but in reality, the result is anything but. The cinched waist gives the biggest confidence boost and results in an outfit formula that I’ve gotten the most compliments on so far. Bonus: This duo also doubles as a top for those days when you can’t be bothered to find the right shirt.

2. With a Dress

I love the element of surprise of a masculine, relaxed blazer in stark contrast to a feminine, corseted dress. To me, it screams “I just threw that on” and it’s one of the easiest combos to pull together in a snap. However, proportions matter here, so my recommendation is the tighter the dress, the looser the blazer.

3. With jeans and a printed T-shirt

You simply can’t go wrong with jeans and a T-shirt. Although you can easily get away with a pared-down styling approach, I recommend adding statement accessories like a studded belt or a fun pair of shoes to the simple combo. And while you’re at it, try swapping out your classics for trendier silhouettes like baggy jeans or boxier T-shirts.

4. With boots and Bermuda shorts

Bermuda shorts for fall? I’m happy to oblige. If you want to spice up your summer basics a bit, look for ways to incorporate some of your fall favorites into their styling. That’s where an oversized black blazer comes in. A blazer with shorts is the perfect transitional outfit for the start of cooler days, especially if you pair it with knee-high boots that show a little skin.

5. With an extra layer

Unless you’re going for an evening look, most people expect a blazer to be worn casually over a light top. But instead of the classic t-shirt and blazer combo, you can go wild and add a button-down shirt. Although you could certainly pull this off with a regular woven blazer, I’d suggest opting for a leather one to offset the already business-like button-down shirt.

6. With leggings

Give your blazer a more casual look by replacing your trousers with leggings. It feels fresh and unexpected and ensures you can move comfortably throughout the day. If I were to do this outfit again, I’d swap the black leggings for a red alternative and the chunky sneakers for a pair of loafers. Outfits like these will make you completely forget that you’re still wearing yoga pants from your early morning Pilates session.
